FAQ

I NEVER DID CROSSFIT, CAN I STILL DO IT?

Absolutely! CrossFit is a fitness program that is designed to be accessible to people of all fitness levels and backgrounds. Whether you’re a beginner or have experience in other forms of exercise, you can certainly give CrossFit a try. CrossFit workouts can be scaled and modified to meet your individual needs and capabilities.

It’s recommended to start with a beginner’s program at “Crossfit RPM” this to learn the foundational movements and techniques. This will help ensure that you maintain proper form and reduce the risk of injury. Crossfit is a personal challenge. It’s you against you.

I SEE ALL THESE FIT PEOPLE, I FEEL INTIMIDATED...WHAT NOW?

Remember this: Everybody once started with a beginner’s class and worked hard for where they are now. You can also do so all at your own pace and feel great doing so.

WHAT IS A CROSSFIT BOX?

A CrossFit box is simply a CrossFit gym. It’s called a “box” because it’s typically a large, open space (like a box) without many of the features you’d find in a traditional gym. Instead of machines and mirrors, you’ll find things like barbells, dumbbells, kettlebells, rowing machines, pull-up bars, medicine balls, jump ropes, and plenty of open space for movements like running, jumping, and lifting.

These boxes are typically very community-focused, with group classes being the main form of training. The term “box” comes from the original CrossFit gyms, which were often just bare-bones warehouse spaces – essentially, “boxes.” Over time, the term has come to symbolize the CrossFit community’s emphasis on functional fitness and camaraderie over fancy equipment and frills.

WOD: WOD stands for “Workout of the Day,” which refers to the daily prescribed exercise routine.

AMRAP: It stands for “As Many Rounds (or Reps) As Possible.” In an AMRAP workout, participants aim to complete as many rounds or repetitions of a given set of exercises within a specified time frame.

EMOM: It stands for “Every Minute on the Minute.” In an EMOM workout, participants perform a specific set of exercises or repetitions at the start of every minute and rest for the remainder of the minute. The cycle repeats for a predetermined number of minutes.

RX: It denotes “as prescribed” and refers to completing a workout exactly as it is written, without any modifications or scaling.

Box: A CrossFit gym is often referred to as a “box.” It’s an informal term used to describe the training facility.

PR: It stands for “Personal Record” and refers to achieving a personal best or setting a new personal record in a particular exercise or workout.

These are just a few examples of the language and abbreviations used in CrossFit. As you get more involved in the CrossFit community, you’ll likely come across additional terms and acronyms that are specific to the training methodology and culture.

HOW DOES THE WAITING LIST WORK?

If the desired class is at maximum capacity, you can choose to join the waiting list. In the rare circumstance that another participant cancels their attendance, individuals on the waiting list will be given priority to take their place and participate in the training session

WHAT IS WODIFY AND HOW DOES IT WORK?

Wodify is an online platform (mobile app & website) used by CrossFit boxes to manage memberships, track athlete performance, provide workout plans and schedules, and facilitate gym communications. Here’s a basic guide on how to use Wodify:

1. Sign Up or Log In: The first step is to create an account or log into your existing account on the Wodify app or website.

2. Select Your Gym: After signing up, you’ll need to select your local gym, in this case Crossfit RPM. This should be a simple search and select process.

3. Book Classes: Once you’ve selected your gym, you can view the class schedule and book classes. You’ll see all the available times and days for each class, and you can reserve your spot with a simple click.

4. Track Your Performance: Wodify allows you to enter your workout results and track your performance over time. You can enter your reps, weights, times, and any other relevant information. It’s a great way to monitor your progress and set new personal bests.

WHAT WILL YOUR FIRST CLASS LOOK LIKE?

Attending your first CrossFit class can feel a little intimidating, but most gyms, or “boxes” as they are often called in the CrossFit world, aim to create a welcoming environment. Here’s a typical rundown of what your first CrossFit class might look like:

1. Introduction: When you first arrive, you’ll likely meet your coach and the other athletes. Most classes start with an introduction or briefing.

2. Warm-Up: Warm-ups are crucial in CrossFit to prepare your body for the high-intensity workout ahead. These typically involve light cardio, like running or rowing, and some mobility and flexibility exercises.

3. Skill/Strength Session: Depending on the program of the day, there might be a skill or strength session. Here you will focus on a specific CrossFit skill or a strength exercise, such as Olympic weightlifting techniques, bodyweight exercises, or other skills.

4. WOD (Workout of the Day): The WOD is the main part of the class, where you’ll do a specific set of exercises as quickly as possible, or try to do as many repetitions as possible within a time frame. The coach will explain and demonstrate each exercise, and will also offer scaling options if the exercise is beyond your current skill level.

5. Cool Down: After the WOD, there’s typically a cool-down period which includes stretching and sometimes discussion or feedback about the workout.

6. Community: Throughout the class, you’ll probably notice a strong sense of community. Cheering each other on, helping each other out, and socializing is a big part of CrossFit culture.

Remember, everyone was once new to CrossFit. Don’t be afraid to ask questions or for modifications if you’re unsure about anything. The most important thing is to have fun and to stay safe!
